During cold weather, your core body temperature may start to drop, so to make up for that, you may shiver, your heart rate may increase and there may be more strain on your heart. Scientists wanted to know if that put us at risk for heart attack. The American Heart Association found for the older, frail population, it's possible winter months can play a part. Dr. Shahid Rahman, a cardiologist affiliated with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, does agree the highest volume of heart attack deaths come in during December and January.
Katy-area man doesn’t let cancer slow him down

The bad news is that Wesley Moore has lung cancer. The good news is that drugs have been developed to treat his disease caused by a gene abnormality allowing him to continue his passion: driving his muscle car — a 2015 Mustang GT painted in “Competition Orange.” Dr. Branden Hsu, the oncologist affiliated with Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, said the CAT scan showed suspicious spots on Moore’s lungs. Further testing showed the cancer has spread. Hsu said gene mutations represent only 3 percent to 4 percent of the population of lung cancer patients. “Significantly, it’s not a hereditary mutation; it just shows up.”
Memorial Hermann introduces new $70 million patient tower to Humble

Of the thousands and thousands of births that have taken place at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble, no birth was quite like this one – the birth of a new patient tower. The tower, located on the McKay or south side of the campus, is directly north of the Southwest Patient Tower. In addition to the patient rooms, the tower includes a new gift shop, the Northeast Bistro and a coffee bar called Healing Brew, featuring Starbucks products.
Memorial Hermann announces opening of Kingwood health center

On Nov. 14, Memorial Hermann officials cut the ribbon formally opening the Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center Kingwood, located in the Main Street Kingwood Shopping Center at Kingwood Drive and W. Lake Houston Pkwy. Rounding out the new CCC services are outpatient imaging, including state-of-the-art equipment comprising X-ray, CT, ultrasound and 3D screening mammography, and a 24-hour Emergency Center.
Late spring opening set for Memorial Hermann's Sports Park

The Memorial Hermann Sports Park-Katy will offer a primary care clinic, a training center and an outdoor turf field when it’s expected to open late next spring. The 50,000-square-foot facility that costs about $15 million is the product of a collaboration between Memorial Hermann and Athlete Training and Health. The sports medicine and human performance facility will be located on the campus of Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.
