Embolization
Embolization is performed to stop an aneurysm from rupturing.
About the Procedure
Coil wires are threaded through a catheter and into the aneurysm. Once they are released from the catheter, the coils expand, filling the ballooned-out space of the aneurysm. This blocks the abnormal blood flow in the aneurysm, which keeps it from growing any larger and rupturing.
